Latvia and Estonia expel Russian ambassadors

Jan 24, 2023

Tallinn [Estonia], January 24: The authorities of Estonia and Latvia announced today that they are expelling the Russian ambassadors, as Russia announced during the day the expulsion of the Estonian ambassador in Moscow.
Lithuania, the third Baltic country, expelled the charge d'affaires of the Russian embassy in October, after the Russian authorities had previously declared the Lithuanian ambassador "persona non grata".
"We respect the principle of reciprocity in relations with Russia," the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today after Moscow's decision to expel the Estonian ambassador.
The Russian ambassador will have to leave Estonia on the same day, February 7, when the Estonian ambassador will leave Russia.
The Russian authorities announced earlier today that they will expel the Estonian ambassador due to Tallinn's "complete Russophobia" and that diplomatic relations will be reduced to the level of charge d'affaires.
Later, during the day, Latvia decided to expel the Russian ambassador and to reduce diplomatic activities with Moscow.
