1,000 Afghan destitute families receive food aid in capital

Oct 10, 2022

Kabul [Afghanistan], October 10: A total of 1,000 Afghan destitute families, mostly orphaned and disabled folks, received food aid donated by a local charity, Bunyad-e-Qaria, in the capital city of Kabul on Sunday.
"Our today's aid package includes a 50 kg bag of flour, sugar, peas, rice, cooking oil, date and salt and we will distribute to each family gathered here," an official with the charity organization Mujib Rahman Mahmoudi, told Xinhua.
More than 22 million out of some 35 million population in Afghanistan, according to aid agencies reports, are facing acute food shortages and a humanitarian crisis.
"I am an internally displaced family and have no shelter to live in. I came here to receive assistance," Bahram Khan, 45, said.
War-torn Afghanistan has been experiencing its worst economic crisis, as the banking system doesn't have normal operation following the withdrawal of the U.S. forces in August last year and the U.S. blocking of some 9.5 billion U.S. dollars assets of Afghanistan's central bank.
