Seoul [South Korea], April 26: One of the most unforgettable milestones in Ngo Thai Ngân's career was winning the championship title of Hay nghe toi hat 2023. Before achieving this "sweet success," the 90s-born singer went through a long and difficult journey pursuing her career. Ngọc Sơn's student shared: "Before that, I struggled a lot in competitions, faced many incidents, to the point that I once decided I would never compete again."
After a period of silence to reflect, she received an invitation to join Hay nghe toi hat. At that fateful moment, her relentless efforts were finally rewarded, helping her shine with her forte in bolero and folk music. For Ngo Thai Ngân, the competition not only opened many opportunities but also gave her more motivation to continue pursuing her passion.
A turning point in Ngọc Sơn's student's career
When talking about her career, Ngo Thai Ngân becomes emotional recalling her early days, when she faced opposition from her family. Having lost her father at the age of 10, she was her mother's only hope. Out of concern for her daughter struggling far from home, her mother strongly opposed her decision to move to Ho Chi Minh City to build her career.
The singer revealed for the first time: "My mother once came all the way to bring me back home. After several times like that, there was one time I decided to run away from home to pursue my passion to the end." Her perseverance and belief in music eventually convinced her mother. Only after she achieved her first successes did her mother fully trust her and become her strongest supporter.
Born into a family where both parents were cải lương (traditional opera) artists, Ngo Thai Ngân was immersed in traditional melodies from an early age. However, she shared something quite surprising: "My parents never taught me anything. I learned everything by listening and following other artists and my parents."
Although she initially intended to follow cải lương like her family, fate led her to music instead. Her foundation in traditional folk tunes helped shape her sweet voice, allowing her to win over audiences with songs such as Mau hoa bí, Hai lối mộng, and Bai ca đất Phương Nam.
After winning the championship, Ngo Thai Ngân's life entered a new chapter with a busy performance schedule. However, many audiences wondered why she has released fewer music products recently. She smiled and explained: "Before winning, I released music very frequently. But after receiving the trophy, I've been extremely busy performing, so I have less time to film music videos." Still, to thank her fans, she revealed that she is cutting back on work to focus on new music projects, expected to be released later this year.
Although she is known for bolero music, nowadays, to suit the atmosphere of events, Ngo Thai Ngân often performs lively modern songs. However, deep down, she still holds a special place for sentimental music. Speaking about future plans, she shared that she is working on a special album about her mother. This will not only be a gift to her mother but also a tribute to all mothers around the world.
