Tehran [Iran], July 9: Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) have dismantled a "terrorist" group in the northwestern province of West Azarbaijan, semi-official Fars News Agency reported on Friday.
"An armed terrorist team," which intended to infiltrate from the northwest border and carry out sabotage operations inside the country, was ambushed by the IRGC Ground Force in the border area of Salmas city of West Azarbaijan province, an IRGC statement said.
In the operation, the "terrorist" team was completely dismantled and a considerable amount of ammunition was seized by IRGC forces, it said.
There were no casualties from the IRGC forces in the operation, the statement added.
Iran's western and northwestern regions have been the scene of clashes between Kurdish separatists and the Iranian security forces over the past decades.
