Washington [US], March 6: AFP on March 6 reported that US forces shot down a missile and three drones (UAVs) of the Houthi forces in Yemen that rushed towards a US destroyer in the Red Sea.
"The US Central Command (CENTCOM) shot down an anti-ship ballistic missile and 3 one-way attack UAVs launched from areas of Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen towards the USS Carney at sea. Red," CENTCOM said in a statement.
The above action occurred between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on March 5 (Yemen time).
"There were no injuries or damage to the ship," according to the statement. Afterwards, the US side also destroyed 3 anti-ship missiles and 3 unmanned boats in Houthi areas in Yemen .
Earlier on the same day, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said the force had targeted two US destroyers in the Red Sea "with many missiles and unmanned boats".
Houthi announced that they will not stop attacking until Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are no longer under siege.
Houthi forces in Yemen began attacking boats in the Red Sea in November 2023, saying they targeted ships linked to Israel, in a move to support Gaza. The US and UK responded with raids on Houthi areas. Afterwards, the Houthis declared that the interests of the US and UK were also "legitimate targets".
Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden for many months have threatened important maritime trade routes, while raids by the US and UK have so far failed to completely prevent them .
